The George Perry Floyd Jr Athletic Community Field at Jack Yates High school needs funds to install new synthetic turf. The project received funding from the NFL Foundation Grassroots Program, which is a partnership of the National Football League Foundation, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and the Houston Texans. Moreover, Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis was instrumental in the designation of Yates High School as the recipient of the artificial turf donated by the Houston Texans, Hellas Construction, Inc., and the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation-NRG Park.
The renovation of the field has many characteristics of a Comprehensive Community Initiative which organizes people and institutions dedicated to improving the well-being of individuals and families in distressed neighborhoods. Athletic fields serve as valuable community assets and offer opportunities for recreation, education, relaxation, and community-building as well as a place for student athletes and coaches to train and enhance team and athletic skills and abilities.
